Botany Bay has been the subject of considerable attention by archaeologists since the 1950's. So much attention, in fact, that the Botany Bay Archaeological District is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as a multi-component site documented as containing significant prehistoric and historic cultural resources.
With that in mind, The Preserve at Botany Bay performed two extensive archaeological studies before development began. The data collected were used to develop conceptual designs that would leave the most sensitive areas untouched and minimize adverse impacts in select site areas. Because of this plan, the ruins of the Botany Bay Plantation will be preserved, serving as an important reminder of the area’s unique history.
