Within Botany Bay exists one of the healthiest and most intact near-shore coral reef communities remaining in the USVI. This diverse and unique marine ecosystem includes breathtaking colonies of elkhorn and staghorn coral, a lush hard-bottom area dominated by sponges and sea fans, and a pristine white-sand bottom teeming with baitfish.
The Preserve at Botany Bay will take considerable steps to protect this essential area and control erosion and sediment before, during and after construction. Reinforced silt fences will protect the shoreline, and straw erosion-control blankets will be used to cover exposed soil. When possible, roads will be cut and paved prior to building construction to ease removal of waste, and careful preparations will be taken before any earthwork commences. Throughout it all, our comprehensive marine monitoring project will be an integral part of development.
