A Full Day at Botany Bay

When vacationing on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, your options can seem limitless with activities to enjoy. The shopping in Charlotte Amalie, live music at Iggies, and golf at Mahogany Run Golf Course are just a few of the enticing endeavors. Owners at The Preserve at Botany Bay may wish to never leave the private 397-acre estate with so much to do onsite. What follows is a sample itinerary for a perfect day at this St. Thomas resort, as suggested by Dave Burden, Botany Bay’s Assistant General Manager.

Carib-Fruit-359x2397:30 a.m – Greet the morning with a cup of Caribbean-grown coffee from St. John Spice at the ferry dock on this U.S. Virgin Island along with fresh fruit like mango and papaya while taking in the views from your waterfront home.

8:30 a.m. – Stroll down to the beach at Mermaid’s Chair, one of the most magical places at The Preserve, for a yoga class on the sand: Stretch and meditate as pelicans and seagulls soar overhead.

10:30 a.m. – Swim across Botany Bay or stroll down the beach to meet friends on the pool deck at The Beach House. Don’t forget your sunglasses. Fresh towels and beverages await. (Iced tea is one option; mimosas are another.)

12:00 noon – Picnic lunch in the Palm Grove: Grab some sundries and wine from your fridge, and head to this shady area near the water’s edge.

BB-Sugar-Mill-359x2391:30 p.m. – Afternoon “Stand Up / Dive In” class led by Dave: This adventurous yet relaxing event combines Stand-Up Paddleboarding with picturesque snorkeling in Botany Bay.

4:00 p.m. – Massage in the Old Sugar Mill: The Botany Bay staff can arrange a private massage in the beautiful ruins of this colonial period production house dating to 1650.

6:00 p.m. – Sunset Cocktails back on the porch followed by dinner prepared by a private chef: a game of cards or some simple conversation paired with a Dark and Stormy (rum, ginger beer, and lime) or Negroni (gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth) will make your scenic patio the perfect way to finish the afternoon. For dining, Passion Fruit Chefs or St. John Catering (who serve both St. Thomas and St. John) can provide in-home fine dining for your group.
