Five of our Favorite Virgin Islands Beach Bars

Posted by Timbers Resorts on January 8, 2014

The Caribbean calls at this time of year – particularly during the current cold snap gripping much of the U.S. mainland. The Preserve at Botany Bay – A Timbers Resort in the U.S. Virgin Islands is one such destination that offers respite from chilly winter weather. This St. Thomas resort with expansive oceanfront lots is the perfect place to call your home away from home. It’s also an ideal launching point to explore neighboring isles in the US and British Virgin Islands, unwind to reggae music, toast with tropical drinks and feast on local fare. The staff at Botany Bay recently compiled a list of their five favorite beach bars worth a visit not too far from the property, whether traveling via sailboat, speed boat or however you choose to get there.

  1. Steel-drums-300x239Soggy Dollar, Jost Van Dyke, BVI: A “swim in” bar. (Warning: there’s no dock.) The Soggy Dollar claims to have originated the Painkiller in the 1970′s. The rum, pineapple, OJ, and cream of coconut concoction is the drink of choice here. If you’re hungry, grab conch fritters or a mahi mahi sandwich. Beware of spending hours upon hours obsessed with conquering the ring game.
  2. Joe’s Beach Bar, Honeymoon Beach, Water Island, USVI: The island equivalent of a food trailer, Joe’s is a fully mobile beach bar serving fried foods, frozen blender drinks like the Bushwacker (vanilla ice cream, rum, and coffee and chocolate liqueurs,) and their signature spin on the Painkiller. The bar floor is beach sand. What’s not to like?
  3. Foxy’s, Jost Van Dyke, BVI: A craft tiki bar? Foxy’s makes their own rum and has an on-site microbrewery that makes four house brews served ice-cold. It opens at 9:30 a.m., so if you’re craving an after-breakfast pint, you’re in luck.
  4. Skinny Legs, Coral Bay, St. John, USVI: In typical Caribbean style, the owners describe this bar as “a pretty OK place.” The burgers are popular with visitors, as are the Rum Punch cocktails. A laid back, family-friendly, and very casual spot.
  5. Little Dix Bay, Virgin Gorda, BVI: This dock-front hotel bar serves lunchtime and happy hour cocktails with water views, burgers, and pizzas.
